Shankhumugham Beach

Situated in the center of Thiruvananthapuram, Shankhumugham Beach is a beloved seaside escape that not only harmonizes serenity, cultural profundity, and the delight of nature but also is a place that both the locals and the visitors are glad to have. It provides a refuge from the noisy world where the regular sounds made by the waves of the Arabian Sea and the stunning sunsets are the things that a person can experience and be inspired by at the same time. Besides the pure resort aspect of the seashore, the old-style village charm of the beach is also considerable because of the fishermen who are at their traditional activities and the views, so it is accessible to all for their evening walks and picnics with the family.

One of the core attractions of the beach is the grand Matsya Kanyaka art piece, the fish-tail-lady figure made of 35 meters of material, which is among the most unique things to see in Kerala. Adjacent to the beach, an indoor recreation center with modern facilities and a children’s park are the additional attractions of this area for the growth of the tourism sector of families.

Besides the scenic allure of this place, Shankumugham Beach is also a very important hub of culture and spirituality. It is the place of Arattukadavu (holy bathing site) for Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy, the deity of the city. On festive days, devotees come here to perform the holy ‘Bali Tharpanam’ rites. On the other hand, during the Ganesha Chaturthi festival, the Ganesh Nimarjan event, which is carried out with a lot of dedication and splendor, is held at the beach.

Shankumugham Beach, with its peaceful environment, creative monuments, and strong cultural roots, is a place that integrates well with the next-door city of Thiruvananthapuram the beach, faith, and tradition are in timeless harmony here.
